Cup win for Dunluce

The game failed to take place on the original date – Saturday, June 16 – following the death of a Coleraine official.

But Dunluce made no mistake when the action finally got under way, winning on all four rinks to earn the Bushmills boys the trophy for only the third time.

The victory also helped ease the misery after the club crashed to defeat in their opening defence of the IBA Senior Cup, surprisingly beaten by Crumlin in Dublin back in late May.

Rodney Kane, beaten by Portrush’s Ian McClure in the final of the Provincial singles last week, was the big performer against a Coleraine side looking to get their hands on the Piggott Cup for the first time since 2006.

Kane skipped his rink to a 23-9 win against Johnny Calvin. But it was a solid team performance, overall.

Barry Kane, winner of the Provincial fours, also claimed a significant 22-20 success against Ally Davison, while Uel and Mervyn McKeeman finished the job.

Uel defeated Richard McDermott 28-22, while Mervyn – he made his Ireland debut in last month’s Home International Series in Wales – beat Victor Dallas 19-13.
