Curran bowlers continue running run at Castle

On rink one, the rink of James Burns, Jimmy McAllister and John Dodsworth took on Harry Dinsmore’s four and took a commanding lead 10-3 after five ends.

By 10 ends the Curran four had all but sealed the match leading 17-4, and by 15 ends they had increased their lead to 25–8 and were coasting to victory. A final score of 27- 14 did not in any way flatter the Curran boys, who all put in fine performances with John Harkin slotting in well at lead in the Senior team.

Raymond Robinson’s four of Sam Poag, Chris McCullough and Michael Dickey started off in fine fashion with a five on the first end against Henry McFarland’s four. This proved to be a false dawn as the home four tied the scores with some great bowling from the third and the skip at 6-6 after five ends.

Again and again Henry proved his value to the home side, putting in some telling bowls when the Curran four looked to be getting the upper hand and by 15 ends the visitors held the slenderest of leads 14-13. By 18 ends the home side had opened up a two shot lead over Ray and the boys.

All credit to the Curran as they came back to lift a three and a one to take a two-shot lead into the last end, eventually scraping home by one shot 18-17 at 21 ends. A real tense encounter for the Curran four, who will look back on this as one of the best points gained this season.

Nigel Todd had his usual four of Robert Bradley, Eddie McCartney and Billy Hunter, who are turning into a formidable rink with all four putting in another great performance and looking like winners from the first few ends.

By ten ends the Todd four had racked up 17-6 lead and looked like they would storm home with a record score. The home side then got themselves together and managed to reduce the deficit slightly only to see the Curran four come back again to finish up 32-14 winners.

On rink four Greg Lorimer made a successful return to skip his rink of Darren Witherspoon, Eddie Duffy and Jim McIlwrath taking a 9-2 lead after five ends. The Curran four continued to play some excellent bowls and made further ground on the opposition four to lead 20-12 at 15 ends putting them in total control of this match. A winning score of 22-15 ensured a full seven points for the Curran.

Final score was Castle (0 points) 60 v Curran (7 points) 99
