Curran Ladies are Moore Trophy finalists

CURRAN Ladies were in magnificent form to qualify for the final of next week's Mary Moore Trophy.

Semi-final opponents Newry were left lagging by the Larne women's greater determination and the 57-17 scoreline in no way flattered the victors.

Joyce Spiers, Eileen Magill and Sally Greer, skipped by Valerie Noble, returned a 30-9 card. On the eighth end the rink missed out on a rare "hot shot" when they took seven of the eight shots available.

Margaret Shepherd's rink was never headed. Ably abetted by Pauline Blair, Marwin Hardy and Lynda Simms, Margaret coasted to a 27-8 win.

All this against Newry, who completed a clean sweep of trophies in 2009!

Curran meet Dromore in the final at Ward Park, Bangor, next Wednesday (September 1) after warming up with a friendly against a Curran men's select.

Two days after the semi, Curran travelled to Wedderburn and won 35-29, earning four points to the home team's one, to keep their quest for runner-up spot on track.

Margaret Shepherd led Pauline Blair, Joyce Spiers and Lynda Simms to a comfortable 22-13 victory.

Valerie Noble guided June Moore, Eileen Magill and Sally Greer against an experienced Wedderburn four and were in contention until losing three shots on the last two ends, to be beaten 16-13.

After the Mary Moore final, Curran Ladies host Divis in their last league match of the season.
