Curtain comes down on local snooker league season

The curtain came down on the season in the Ballymena and District Snooker league with a series of finals in the last week.

Potters Hotshots claimed the Robert McFall Memorial Trophy with a 5-0 success over Minnesota Strikers.

Steven McIlroy gave the Hotshots a perfect start with a comfortable 2-0 success over Daniel Thompson.

Willie Eakin then defeated Bill McKane by a similar scoreline to assure the Hotshots had several frames to gain the one they required for victory.

The end came swiftly for Strikers as Corey Sweeney’s easy win in his opening frame gave the Hotshots the trophy.

Remarkably, the Knockout Cup final was also contested between Potters Hotshots and Minnesota Strikers and this final was virtually identical to the previous contest, played only three days earlier.

Steven McIlroy repeated his success over Daniel Thompson to put Hotshots in control.

Although Bill McKane drew with Lee McIlreavey, Corey Sweeney then defeated Gary McAleese.

This added another trophy to the Coleraine side’s collection this season and brought Strikers’ season to a very disappointing end as they failed to do themselves justice in either final.

147 Antrim won the Gerard Robb Memorial Trophy with a hard fought 5-3 win over Seagulls Potters in Dunloy.

Ian Templetons 2-0 win over Chris Boreland was ultimately the deciding factor in the match for the Antrim men.

The Robin McCaughey v Ivan Boreland; Jason Smyth v Sam Cobbin; and Mervyn Campbell v James Nesbitt match-ups all finished one frame each.

Congratulations to Seagulls Potters on reaching two finals in their debut season.

In the only Individual competition played in the BDSL where handicaps do not come into play, Minnesota pair Rodney McFall and Davy Swann required all five frames before a winner emerged.

Rodney took the first two frames only for Davy to rally and force a decider before Rodney claimed victory in frame five.
