Cycling Club celebrate success with a third team

Ballymoney Cycling Club have enjoyed success in the road racing scene with open race victories from Steven McAllister, Aaron Swan, Bryan McKinney and Devon McIlwaine.

McAllister again along with Garreth McBride and Olly Bateson in the inter club races. Aaron Swan winning the highest accolade by winning the All Ireland schoolboy championships.

The talented schoolboy has been growing from race to race and even won the BCC race on the Tullaghans against senior

riders.

As the BCC Racing and Leisure teams continue to enjoy the ongoing success an announcement was made at the weekend

in the light of the ongoing growth of the off road cycling scene and as safety is top of the club’s priorities. To get youth involved in the sport it is vital they can enjoy themselves in a safe environment. Leisure and off road enthusiasm Niall Carlin has take the courageous step and has formed

the “ALL NEW” BCC Off Road Team, this new team will include not only kids and youth, but will also be hosting senior events around the area.

With children and youth the future of cycling it is a fantastic idea that Niall has had and will go from strength to strength as it is built on with the encouragement and enthusiasm of all the club.

With the launch of the SportNI, BCC and Dalriada coming in the next few weeks it is exciting for the town and borough that the forward thinking of BCC is taking cycling to another level.

The Ballymoney club realise that there is more to cycling than just racing and have adapted to accommodate all cyclists, setting in place a programme with tandems for the visually impaired, piggy backs and an adult trike for the disabled going on display at their sensational launch in October.

Lungbuster II sees Beattie win in style.

Local rider Chris Beattie won the last 5 mile TT of 2011 with a time of 12 minutes, this comes after Chris finished 2nd to cycling legend Joe Barr at the recent Tour of Innishowen. Chris has also entered for the New York Gran Fondo next year with around 8,000 other cyclists from all over the world.

Second to Beattie was BCC’s Steven McAllister and 3rd was dangerman and fast improving Wayne Stevens.
