CYCLING: Foyle cyclist claims top spot in France

Foyle Cycling Club's Ryan Reilly, who is currently riding in France with AC Bisontine, took first place in Sunday's GP Coanus in Igney, Vosges.

The man from Claudy, who only arrived in France on June 7th, took the race by storm, riding impressively for the duration of the route. Fellow Irishman Matthew Teggart came in second, with Antoine Guyot of Meam Macadam Cowboys completing the podium positions.

Simon Gill, Foyle CC chairman, said the news was fantastic for Ryan and the local club.

“It’s a great result,” explained the Foyle Chairman, “Ryan is a super talent and I have no doubt he has the potential to become a professional cyclist on the international circuit.”

Reilly, won the Red Hand Trophy in May in County Antrim, and is now in contention to compete in the U23 Irish Championships later this month in Kilcullen, County Kildare. The men’s under-23 champion is awarded to the first under-23 in the élite race. The junior road races are held on the same day as the élite and the time-trial championship is earlier in the week.
