CYCLING: Good turnout for Three Oaks race

Tuesday evening saw a good turnout for the Bann Wheelers’ Three Oaks Flat 25 Mile road race.

The good weather always brings out the numbers and there was a strong field of over thirty starting.

The race was handicapped into four groups and once again Ian Nevin paced the groups so that they all came together in the last lap for a bunch sprint finish. He’s uncanny!

Bann Wheelers’ Bobby Kane showed his true class by holding his nerve and taking a deserved first place. Cathal McGee from Roe Valley was second and Stuart Laverty (U16) from Ballymoney CC took a deserved 3rd. This was a great result for a junior in such a strong field including A1, A2, A3 & A4 riders.

Big thanks go to Derek McMenemy, Nigel Kerr and Paul Murray for keeping everyone safe and once again, massive thanks to the “Timekeeping Wizard” Ian Nevin for arranging the starting order and sorting out the finishing. The full results can be found on the club’s website www.bannwheelers.com.

Next Tuesday’s race (29th) will be the Interclub 25 mile time trial on the Ballybogey circuit.
