Cycling: Harvey Barnes strikes junior gold for East Tyrone

East Tyrone's Harvey Barnes, who was a multi-medal winner on the track as an under 16, kept his good form as a junior to claim gold in the Sprint event in last weekend's National Junior Track Championships at Sundrive Velodrome down in Dublin.

Harvey qualified with the second fastest time in the Flying 200m to reach the quarter finals. The East Tyrone club rising star progressed through the semi-finals to reach the decider.

The final, which was the best out of three, saw Harvey winning 2-0 to take gold.

Meanwhile, East Tyrone club made a very steady start to this season’s Five Inter Club Road Race Series in the opening round promoted in the Clogher Valley by the Lakeland Club in and around the Fivemiletown area.

The club is now lying second in the B Section and third in the A Section.

Garry Rainey and newcomer Mark Farquhar were the club’s highest points scorers, placing third and fifth in the B Event.
