CYCLING: Kay strikes Gold at TT

The weather was kind to the riders with the sun coming out and becoming quite warm. A brisk breeze made the ride out to the Ballymena roundabout more difficult in the early stages of the event but it was a day for personal bests for several riders including Bann Wheelers Time Trial veteran Dominic Drumm who recorded 4:14:59. This was a fantastic result for Dominic.

Fellow member Kay Hack completed the 100 miles in 4:48:37 to take the Gold medal for fastest woman. That makes Kay the new Ulster 100 Mile TT Champion. This tops off a very successful season for Kay who has also claimed the 10 Mile Team Trial Championship, the 25 Mile Time Trial Championship and the Ulster Women Association 10 Mile Time Trial League.

New Members Dedicated Club Run

Whether it is the legacy of the Olympic games or the continued success of Bann Wheelers in local and regional competition September has seen an influx of new members to the popular local club. Such has been the demand that a dedicated club run, specifically catering for new members and those returning to training.

This is a mix of male and female, young and older. A distance of around 30 miles is covered on mainly flat terrain, averaging 15 mph. This group meets at 8.30am on a Saturday morning at Strand Road Service Station in Coleraine. During September this group of between 20 and 30 riders has progressed and enjoyed the friendly and social atmosphere.

All club runs include a cafe stop where members can get to know each other better. There is also a similar group that meets on a Sunday morning at 0830, also at Strand Road Service Station. The club would like to build on this success and invite anyone who is interested in road cycling to come along and sample a unique approach to entering the world of club cycling.
