Cycling: Owen tops for BCC at the Loup

Ballymoney Cycling Club’s junior rider Jack Owens was closely pipped on the line at the interclub road race promoted by Spires CC on the Loup, Ballyronan, Magherafelt circuit.

Jack, who was riding under close instructions to score points in this team event, showed his good form on the line being beaten by A3 rider Martin Kelly from Carn Wheelers.

Jack’s other team mates Jordan McCaw finished 6th and consistent points scorer Aaron Dickie came home in 7th.

Young under 16 rider Ryan Orr led in the bunch sprint but did not score any points at this time.

All round it was a good night for the Ballymoney cycling team as they are only 5points behind the mighty Ballymena Road Club with 59pts and Ballymoney CC in 2nd with 54points.

This Wednesday night it is Ballymoney’s turn to host the 3rd round at Stranocum on the testing Stroan Circuit, starting at 7.30pm. Sign on at the Community centre in the village.

Ballymoney cycling club would ask all their riders to make themselves available on Wednesday evening as this is our opportunity to try and put pressure on the other clubs at this early stage.

Riders like Garreth McBride, Ryan Patton and Steven McAllister will be looking to get points on the board at their home event.

This week’s race will see the return of Martin Carroll, talented Schoolboy Stuart Laverty and hard man Ryan Fenton back in the fray and hungry for success.

Breathe Easy sponsored cycle

This Saturday Ballymoney Cycling Club will take part in a fundraising cycle for Breathe Easy the British Lung Foundation charity. All cyclists with a bicycle are asked to come along to the Joey Dunlop Centre for 11am on Saturday the 9th June.

There will be Ballymoney CC riders available to take everyone round the two routes being used.

Route 1 will be from the JD centre out the Kirk Road to Stranocum, straight through and on the Ballinlea Road and turning left at Gracehill golf club passing the “Dark Hedges” on the Bregagh Road to the Bushside and then following the Gracehill Road back through Dunaghy and finishing at the leisure centre.

The Route 2 will leave the JD centre and follow the Kirk Road to Stranocum turning right onto the Fivey road and right again on the Gracehill road through Dunaghy and back to the JD centre.

All Ballymoney CC members are asked to come along and help out.
