Cycling youth development course

BITTERLY cold weather was not enough to keep a small but determined group of young people away from Mountainbike coaching.

The Foyle Cycling Club hosted lessons at Gransha for the hardy youngsters.

FCC's two coaches, Mark and John split the group in to two teams. After a brief safety briefing and equipment check, the afternoon kicked off with lessons in braking and pedalling efficiency. After a couple of practice runs, manoeuvring between cones, the groups were then pitted against each other in a friendly duel to see who could negotiate the obstacle course the quickest.

Finally, in an effort to get some blood pumping in what could only be described as 'Baltic' conditions, the group were led around the grounds of Gransha, taking in some forest trails. The young cyclists finally retraced their steps back to the car park.

Foyle Cycling Club encourage all to come along, saying all you need is a bike, a helmet and some warm clothes.

The second session, from 2pm until 3pm resumes again this Saturday. Car parking space is available on the second left after entering Gransha grounds.
