Dalriada into third round after Bloomfield win

BLOOMFIELD CS 1

On Saturday morning Dalriada XI hockey team travelled to the Civil Service Park in Belfast to play Bloomfield in the second round of the Schools Cup.

It was an exciting game with Emma Chestnutt and Sara Jamison making good runs up the line, great tackles made in defence by Diane Ramsay, Tara McConaghie, Emma Johnston and Rachel Taggart and brilliant play in centre midfield by Lynne Macauley.

However just before the half time whistle Bloomfield scored. Dalriada lost their Captain Lynn Macaulay at the end of the first half due to a head injury but Dalriada fought back hard.

A great ball from Eva Carson to Rachael Kennedy resulted in a brilliant finish and Dalriada’s first goal! Bloomfield came back at Dalriada but Dalriada held their ground.

Midfielders Sophia Rogers, Sophie Sterne and Eva Carson worked hard to get the ball up the pitch. All the hard work and determination finally paid off in the last 2 minutes of play when Claire Finnerty had a brilliant shot on goal, which was deflected in and resulted in Dalriada’s second goal

Great goal keeping from Laura Henry and also good play and support by Lucy Buick and Robyn Ennis. Both teams would like to thank Ruth Sutherland and the Bloomfield umpire for umpiring the match, the coach of Bloomfield and Dalriada’s coach Nikki Parke. Finally thr team would like to thank the supporters who gave up their Saturday morning to come and cheer us on.

On the 15th of November Dalriada 2nd X1 team played Coleraine High School at the Joey Dunlop leisure centre in a league match. When the match ended Coleraine High came out victorious, winning 3-1, however this score does not mirror how close the match was. The first goal was scored by Coleraine high in the first half but Dalriada came back and Charlotte Calderwood, playing centre forward scored making in 1-1.

After Coleraine had scored their second goal Sophie Rollins, playing right midfield, had an amazing shot at goal during a penalty corner but unfortunately the goal was disallowed. Annabel Steen, Dalriada’s goal keeper, saved some very good shots and helped to keep the Dalriada side in the game.

The Dalriada team played well but a particularly notable performance was the one of Bekah Kennedy who received player of the match. The team would like to thank Coleraine High School for a great match and Miss Wharry for being an excellent umpire and coach.

Dalriada 3rds played Coleraine High School 3rds on Saturday. It was a competitive match with a final score of 1-0 to Dalriada. Lucy Patterson, playing Dalriada’s left mid-field scored Dalriada’s winning goal. The team would like to thank Miss Wharry.

On Saturday the Dalriada U14 had a league match against Coleraine high. Dalriada went out to win the match but came out with a draw. It was a close match with a few opportunities but none of them went in the goal. Coleraine had a chance to score late on but Jill Huey the goalie saved it. Together it was a good match for both teams.
