A YOUNG Coalisland man has been crowned the Under 14 Northern Ireland Snooker champion.

Dan Nixon, 13 took the title last weekend in Antrim when around 16 competitors fought it out for the accolade.

The St Jospeh’s College student has only be playing snooker for around three years and told the TIMES, he was over the moon with his first professional tournament win.

Dan began the day in great form, a 35 break saw him through the first round 2-0. But arguably his best perfromance of the day came in the semi-final when he unseated the defending champion, winning a tough match 2-1.

In the decider Dan consistently had the upper hand and won out in straight frames against Louis McClure, to claim the title.

Undoubtedly a great win for the talented Gervin’s star who this season captained the Players Hill Club to win the East Tyrone U14 title.
