Dan gets kick from Services to Sport honour

But the local karate coach admits that being recognised in Ballymena Borough Council’s Annual Sports Awards is one of the biggest highlights.

Dan was a deserving winner of the Services to Sport award at the recent function in the Braid complex.

He has been involved in Martial Arts for 39 years, the past 28 of themin coaching.

His involvement in karate includes competing for Northern Ireland, Treasurer to Northern Ireland Karate Board, Representing NIKB at the Martial Arts Commission, Kumite and Kata Referee, Kumite and Kata Judge, Karate NVQ Assessor and CKA Chairman/Coach.

Dan formed the Chujo Karate Association in 1975 and members have gone on to represent Northern Ireland at International level and to win National Individual Titles. Dan Redmond and the Chujo Karate Association are respected throughout the World.

Dan has thanked Ballymena Borough Council for the prestigious award and is greatly appreciative of it.

He regrets that he could not personally attend at the awards ceremony due to last minute unforeseen circumstances.

The Services to Sport award was accepted on his behalf by Seven Towers Leisure Centre Karate Club member Mr Ernest Tuff.

Meanwhile, back on club matters, Dan had the pleasure of presenting senior and junior coaching awards to members of Chujo Karate Association recently.
