Daunting task says Wright

TOMMY Wright admits his team face a 'daunting' task when they take on Linfield at New Grosvenor on Saturday.

The Whites' boss has been busy bringing in new faces during the transfer window including former player Paul Muir, back until the end of the season from Ballymena.

"When you are bottom of the table and struggling for precious points facing the might of Linfield is daunting," he said. "A few weeks ago people were writing off the Blues and now they are back on track again and hit five past Newry last weekend."

It looks like this one could be written off for the home team, but Wright has stressed to his players to look positively at all the games. "Every game from here on in is a cup final for us. Whether it be Linfield or Institute we have to approach it as a win or bust situation. We will not go out and lie down. We must try and make it as difficult as possible for them and perhaps get a break.

"We have Paul Muir back and that will boost our back line. No matter what we did it was not good enough to keep clean sheets and that is what we must start to do if we have any chance of getting off the bottom. Paul is delighted to be back. He knows the place well and will not need any time at all settling in. We have also brought in young striker Aaron Nash, Mark Kelly and John Curran.

"Some people might be wondering how we can bring new players in while the club hit the headlines recently. The fact is the company involved with the CVA has given us a budget to run the football club and we are working to that. I have let players go to allow me to inject some new faces."

Nash played for Derry City last season, scoring on his debut against Cork City and then he hit a hat-trick in four minutes against Ballymun. "He is a great prospect," said Tommy. "He is over 6ft and will cause defences plenty of problems. I am delighted to have him here."

Linfield boss David Jeffrey is taking nothing for granted. "They may be bottom of the table, but Distillery will be fighting and battling for every point and we cannot take them lightly.

"We showed how clinical we can be when the chances did come along last week and we need to keep doing that from here on in.

"I don't ever recall having an easy game at New Grosvenor and I don't expect it to be any different on Saturday," said Jeffrey.
