David holds the Keys to success at Galgorm

Golfers had to contend with very cold weather conditions and the heavy rain mid morning were far from ideal.

In Division 1 after three Philip Galloway (5) and Michael Dallat (1) held a narrow lead, one point ahead of David Keys (4) and Keith Barkley (5) with David Martin a further two points behind. With three holes to play Galloway, Dallat and Keys were vying for the lead two points ahead of Barkley with Martin another point down.

Galloway (par, bogey, par) and Keys (bogey, par, par) finished together and with a better last six first place went to Keys with Galloway in second place. M.Dallat (three pars), K.Barkley (bogey, birdie, par) and a late effort from Martin (birdie, par, par) finished together and with a better last six third place was taken by Martin. M.Dallat won the Gross and his back nine included a birdie and eight pars.

One point separated four golfers after three holes in Division 2 – Keith Dinsmore (8), Paul Reid (6), Darryl Robinson (6) and Geoffrey Marshall (8) with the former two leading. Up the Grove Dinsmore and Reid were joined by Robinson in a three way tie. Dinsmore (two bogeys) and Robinson (par, bogey) finished together and with a better last six first place went to Robinson with Dinsmore second. Marshall recovered from his bogey trouble to finish par, birdie to join Reid (two bogeys) and with a better last six third place was taken by Marshall.

John Fitzgerald (10) opened briskly in Division 3 and after the Maple was two points ahead of Colin Thompson (10), Ivan Graham (11) and James Campbell (12). Robert Barkley (9) was another point behind followed by John Caulfield (9) and John McFarland (10) a further point behind. Barry Mott (9) was another point behind at this stage. Approaching the penultimate tee Graham and an improved Barkley were leading by a point from Thompson and Fitzgerald. Caulfield, McFarland and Mott came next a further point behind.

Graham lost his chance of winning when he ‘dinged’ the last after a bogey at the Lowlands. However he had done enough to take third place. Mott finished with a par and a birdie to win by one point from Thompson (par, bogey). Caulfield (double bogey, bogey), Campbell (par, ‘ding’), Barkley, McFarland and Fitzgerald all finished together, a point behind I.Graham. Twos were recorded by – D.Keys, A.Atkinson, P.Houston’ D.McAleese and D.Nesbitt.
