Dean at the double as Bann Threes hit five to kick off 2015 in scoring style

Banbridge Thirds travelled to Shaws Bridge to take on Instonians in the first game of the new year and came away with a

convincing 5-0 victory.

Bann welcomed in Charlie Norris to their panel with the promising Ulster player turning 15 towards the end of last year.

Bann got off to a great start and took the lead in the first minute. Strong running by Gary Dean saw him enter the circle after avoiding a couple of Inst defenders and after a mix up between the keeper and an Inst defender, Dean was on hand to tap in.

Although scoring an early goal, it was clear Bann hadn’t played for nearly a month as they failed to control possession and turned the ball over cheaply in good positions. Bann should have doubled the lead towards the end of the half when a great passing move between Scott and Dean found the former free in the circle with only the keeper to beat but his shot went wide.

Bann started the second half in exactly the same manner as the first, scoring on their first attack. Scott found himself well placed in the circle and after his shot came off the post, Dean was on hand to score from close range.

Bann soon increased their lead after good work from Brown found Campbell in the circle and he made no mistake to take the game away from Inst.

Bann continued to apply pressure on the Inst defence and a great pass from Hurst was well collected by the debutant Norris on his reverse stick wide on the right side of the circle. The young forward was very composed and simply flicked the ball into the net to provide Bann with their fourth goal

More chances were created and Ferguson was well positioned to score Bann’s fifth from midway in the circle. Inst didn’t give up and were close to pulling a goal back towards the end of the match.

Bann continue to sit in fourth place in Junior Two and entertain Raphoe Seconds on Saturday.
