Debut win for Charlie

CHARLIE Gilliland from Lisburn made a winning debut in her MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fight on May 9 in The Ramble Inn, Antrim.

The 21-year-old took on and defeated Aisling McClaren from Derry in what was billed the first ever ladies MMA bout in Northern Ireland.

"I have no sports background at all," says Charlie who is studying Business Management at Queens. "I only got involved in MMB through some guys I work with. It is great for confidence and fitness. I really enjoy it and train up to three times a week. I hope to have another fight some time over the summer."
