Declan wins the Weir Memorial

ON Saturday June 9 the Darren Weir Memorial was played for.

It was a great day for golf and there were some excellent scores.

Dermot Magee won the senior prize with a great score of 63 nett.

In fourth place was Ken Whan, also with a 63 nett. That was a good score waiting to happen.

In third was the club vice Captain, Declan Dooher with a quality nett 62.

Runner-up was John McDowell with a 61 off 11 – he is now a single figure handicap for the first time in his life. Well done John.

The best gross was won by Rory Leonard. A good bogey 5 at the first was followed by a quality display of controlled golf for an easy 66 gross. He played with John McDowell – some fourball that – I wonder who won the money?

I’d be joking if I said, “You don’t see this man about the club much” – Declan Barry’s dedication was rewarded with a brilliant round of gross 68, nett 59 for a two stroke victory.

Well done Deccie – class will always shine through in the end!
