Curry had around 30 seconds to spare on David Conroy (Donnybrook Landscapes Co-Scott) who took the silver medal while rounding out the podium was Conroy’s teammate Gareth Hegarty.

Curry (17) was runner-up to Rory Maguire (Phoenix CC) in the championships last year and recently admitted that he was “devastated” at that result.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” he told cycling website www.stickybottle.com.

“Especially after coming second last year, it’s great to get the win this time. It’s really just fantastic.

“I was hoping to get in the medals but to get first is great, I’m really over the moon.

“The course was tough; it was a lot harder than last year.

“The season has gone very well for me,” he continued. “Now I’ll take a break before the MTB starts up again in the next couple months.”
