Deller and Neill shine for East Coast Athletic Club

Seventeen East Coast AC athletes, accompanied by a large number of friends and family, descended on Ormeau Park, Belfast, on Saturday, for the annual Podium 4 Sport Seeley Cup 10k.

Murray Deller led the way for the East Coast AC team, running well to secure a new personal best of 38:31 (127th). Mark Jordan and Adele Neill were inseparable for much of the race, however it was Mark who reached the finish first in an impressive 42:29 (285th).

International triathlete, Adele followed in 42:33 claiming 19th place (5th in age category) in the ladies’ category.

Wearing club colours for the first time, John Steele looked strong as he made his way towards the finish, running 44:18 (362nd).

Paul Clements produced one of the most notable performances of the day; finishing in 45:44 (411st) which bettered his previous personal best by nine minutes.

Alan Glover and Brian Maltman finished in quick succession; Alan crossed the line in a time of 47:08 (461st) and Brian ran 47:16 to take 470th place.

Sandy Plumb proved his hard work in training is paying off after running 48:16 for the distance, securing 496th place overall.

Carol Clarke finished in 48:50 (77th lady) followed by Glenda Girvin who smashed her personal best by over four minutes when she recorded 49:46, taking 99th in the ladies’ category.

Mark Dean completed the course in 56:50 (742nd), closely followed by Ruth Maltman in 57:49 (218th place lady).

Paul Cunningham achieved a new personal best of 59:03, taking 769th overall, followed by Katie Glover in 59:14 (226th place lady).

Patricia Campbell and Marie Glover ran well over the distance securing 277th and 278th respectively in the ladies’ category with a joint finish time of 1:11:19.

After a strong start, Drew Girvin unfortunately had to pull out of the race due to injury.
