DERBY CLASH WILL BE A DING-DONG BATTLE

GLEBE Rangers boss, Gary Scott, and his counterpart at Ballymoney United, Joe McCall, are expecting a ding-dong battle on Saturday when the teams clash in what is generally acclaimed as the most eagerly anticipated derby match for years.

Both sides have hit a rich vein of form with Glebe hauling themselves out of the bottom two after some great results and anticipating a strong run in to finish the season to consolidate their position in Championship One of the Irish League.

No such problems for McCall's Ballymoney United who lie sixth in the table and are are currently playing with confidence and assuredness.

The game, at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre, will see United occupying the home dressing room giving them a slight psychological advantage, but McCall knows it will count for little when the two teams step on to the field.

"Our confidence is high, but it's the same at the Glebe and it's a game that will be too close to call," McCall told the Times. He added: "It's a great advert for the town and the be all and end all for the locals. I'm not from Ballymoney, but I know enough to realise this game means a lot."

Both McCall and Scott are close friends and often text each other about results, but both aren't expecting any good luck messages prior to Saturday.

Scott has taken Glebe to new heights following his arrival and the team have gone five games without defeat to set something of a record.

"The team now have a ferocious appetite and the supporters, back room staff and training personnel have all been excellent. It's a team effort,", Scott said.

He added: "This is a huge game for us and will give someone the bragging rights. Let's just hope it's us. I have total respect for Ballymoney United. We have two teams who are in good form at present, but something has to give."

Scott firmly believes the Glebe are very capable of getting a result, while confidence at United is very high.

Both clubs have been forced to omit two players because of a one match suspension imposed on Kirk Brace (Glebe) and Denver Gage (United).

Scott has sent his best wishes to David McVicker who broke his ankle playing for the Reserves and Darren Hutton who was involved in a car crash.

Joe McCall has also sent best wishes to Tony McCloskey who underwent an operation on torn cruciate ligaments sustained in a five-a-side game.

Meanwhile, Paul Gaston has left the Beckett Soccer Academy where he managed the Under-13 team.

Paul, a popular figure, has thanked all the players, family members and supporters at the Academy for their help and support and has wished them well in the future.

"I will be moving on to other challenges," said Gaston who was at the club for almost a year."
