Derby defeat for Foyle

FOYLE Men lost 8-2 in their final league derby match of the season against Omagh Men, on Saturday.

This would be decisive in determining who would end up bottom of the table this year and only two points separate them.

With much to prove Foyle defended well from the attacking centre channel of their Tyrone visitors.

As expected though Omagh pinned Foyle back with passes which stretched their reach with speed and accuracy to find the net on 15 minutes.

A similar format found a home foot in the cirlce and a second was converted from a resultant short corner.

However Foyle were not out of it yet as a Cleverly ball penetrated the Omagh circle where a defender spilled and allowed Daniel Donaghy to strike on his reverse stick to find the target and pull one back on 25 minutes.

Foyle’s tails were up and on the offensive as they push for an equaliser before half time and a series of penalty corners hit the post to deny parity. Cruely though Omagh broke away quickly and pinched a painful third before the half-way whistle.

The second half saw more pressure from the north west side and a weaving run from Bahli crossed to who else only Donaghy again for his second score to really spark further drama into the zesty tie.

Supporters volumised willing their team on and for a first ever hatrick for Donaghy and the Foyle team and but the experienced opponents effectively drained the palpable enthusiasm by keeping possession better and using every possible pass efficiently to capitalise on numerous occasions exposing the fitness and endurance needed to keep pace.

Donaghy for his scores would be the home team’s man of the match and would have to settle with a brace.
