Dermot breaks course record at Rosapenna

DERMOT McElroy was in record-breaking form as he continued his terrific golfing summer recently.

The 19-year-old Ballymena golfer was second in the highly-rated Mullingar Scratch Cup and followed that us with a four-shot win in the Rosapenna 36-hole Senior Scratch Cup.

The +4 handicapper scored a three under par 69 to set a new best score for the Sandy Hills links in the morning round and the added a level par 71 in the afternoon for a total of three under 140 to head a star-studded field packed with the top names in Irish amateur golf.

In the Old Tom Morris links second round, Dermot covered the front nine in two over, 37 shots and then dropped a further shot at the 10th to fall back to level par overall.

But he then played the last eight holes like a champion with a par at the long par four 11th, followed by three straight birdies which got him back to level par for the round and three under overall, before finishing with four pars.
