Dermot wins a trip to top course

Dermot Dawson is off to the K Club! INBL1425-277EB

This was a special competition as the winner, aka Dermot Dawson, will accompany the club professional Jason Greenaway to the regional final at the K Club and, if successful there, he could end up playing in Portugal. How exciting is that!

Dermot wouldn’t have fancied his chances early on in his round. He was 9 over par after only 6 holes and looked out of it.

He then played the next 7 holes in one under par gross and he was right back in contention.

Cathal McNiff, who had a "hole in one" at the 12th hole last Saturday.

Despite playing the last 5 holes in 4 over par, Dermot won the competition with a nett 64. The club couldn’t have asked for a better man to represent them at the K-Club.

Ryan Simpson (7) was runner-up with a nett 65. Ryan’s round was well nigh flawless except for a double bogey at the opening hole.

Mel Hylands (11) won the low section (0-12) with a nett 66. Andrew Shaw (6) was second in the low section with another nett 66.

Hugo Downey also had a nett 66 but lost out on countback.

Joe Whiteside (15) won the middle section (13-17) with a net 68.

Cameron Morton (13) was second, also with a nett 68.

Kenny Arlow, Brian Grimes, Tom Fee, Verdun Bond and Robert Ervine all missed out on countback.

Paddy McCambridge (23) won the high section (18+) with 23 points. Paddy had the days’ saddest story. He had four, yes 4, triple bogeys on his card.

If these had only been double bogeys, Paddy would have won the competition by a shot.

Brian Shannon (21) was runner-up in the high section with a net 68.

Lyle Rea, Brian Parkes and Colin Smylie were beaten on countback.]

Sydney Pepper (12) won the prize for best senior with a nett 67.

And, finally, Connor Doran (+1) won the coveted best gross prize with a one under par 68.

Two “Holes-In-One”

There was something exceptional happened in last Saturday’s competition. Two players had a hole-in-one, both at the 12th hole.

The delighted men were Cathal McNiff and Jim Gracey. From all reports, they both hit brilliant iron shots.

Cathal didn’t see his ball going into the hole and he wondered where it was. What a pleasant surprise it was to find it in the hole.

Congratulations to them both.
