Kilrea 2-11 Ballinderry 3-13

BOTH teams were well under strength but that did not prevent them from serving up and exciting and entertaining game at Pearse Park, Kilrea. It was Kilrea’s third successive defeat after a great start.

Ballinderry got off to a flying start with a point from James Conway, followed by a palmed goal from Raymond Wilkinson when he reacted quickly to a Dermott McGuckin shot that sent the ball against the bar.

However Kilrea responded positively to the early setback to tie the scores, 2-04 to 1-07, by the half time whistle, with Paddy McNeill grabbing both goals.

The Kilrea points in the first half came from Kieran Og O’Kane, Eamon Morgan, Benny McKay and Paddy McNeill, with James Bateson (2), Colin Devlin (2), Raymond Wilkinson and Fintan Bell the other Shamrock’s scorers.

Greenlough 0-06 Ballinascreen 5-18

Without a number first choice players, including defender Brain McCallion, ace forward Enda Lynn and suspended midfielder Neil Bradley, Greenlough were put to the sword by a rampant Ballinascreen currently hitting a rich vein of form. Nine of their team scored during the one sided encounter.

The game was effectively over at half time when Ballinascreen led 2-10 to 0-05, a goal from a Benny Heron penalty and the second from Seamus Bradley the centrepiece of their sparkling first half scoring spree.

Cormac O’Neill pointed three frees for the home team, Robert McAllister and Chris Kearney the other first half scorers for the Clady side.

Ryan Tohill got Greenlough’s solitary second half point from a free, Anton Kelly, Gavin Bradley and Johnny McKee respectively the second half goal scorers.

Johnny McKee came off the bench to score 1-03 for Ballinascreen to finish equal top scorer with Phillip Bradley

Loup 1-08 Lavey 0-10

Loup kept up their quest for a top three finish with a narrow one point win over a Lavey side that spurned a couple of goal chances, as well as opportunities to at least get a share of the spoils in the final minutes.

However Loup laid the foundation for their victory with a strong first half display that produced an Aidan McVey goal midway through the half for a 1-06 to 0-03 interval lead.

In that half Paul McVey, Declan McVey and Gavan Mallon each scored two points, with Joe Dougan, Chris Henry and Gary Cushnehan on target for the visitors to St. Patrick’s Park.

Lavey raised their game in the second half but points from Paul McVeigh and Brian Doyle kept Loup in control at 1-08 to 0-06

The Lavey scorers were Colm Murphy 0-03, Joe Dougan 0-02, Chris Henry 0-02 frees, Gary Cushnehan free, Liam Murphy and Kevin Rafferty 0-01 each

Bellaghy 0-11 Magherafelt 0-15

Magherafelt are setting the standard in the first division as they made it nine unbeaten with a four point away win against Bellaghy.

But they did not get it all their own way against a Bellaghy side that twice fought their way back into contention before the Rossas held out for victory.

Frankie Donnelly and Chrissy Spiers from a ‘45’ shared the opening points, with Shay Quinn and Conan O’Brien pointing for 0-02 each.

Shane Heavern and Gavin Diamond were on target for 0-03 each before Chrissy Spiers started a ‘purple patch’ for Rossas with a point for the lead twelve minutes from half time. A point from Shane Heavern and two from Antoine McElhone put Rossas 0-07 to 0-03 ahead, with Chrissy Spiers landing a free for 0-08 to 0-03 at half time.

Kieran McGlone extended the lead on the restart but Gavin Diamond responded from a free for 0-09 to 0-04. Frankie Donnelly and Kieran McGlone swapped points for 0-10 to 0-05, McElhone and Spiers then bringing the Rossas score to twelve points.

However points from Conan Brown and Shane Heavern heralded a scoring burst that saw Bellaghy hit four unanswered points from Gavin Diamond, Frankie Donnelly (2) and substitute Francis Glackin to cut the lead to 0-13 to 0-10 with nine minutes remaining.

However just when Bellaghy looked to be right back in the game Rossas grabbed two points through the impressive McElhone before Gavin Diamond had the last score of the game from a free.

Coleraine 0-11 Slaughtneil 1-23

Coleraine took an early 0-02 to no score lead with points from Conor and Richard Carey but that was as good as it would get for the Owen Roes as Slaughtneil produced a scintillating attacking display that cut a depleted Coleraine to shreds. Without their county contingent and a list of others injured ther Bannsiders were never in with a chance.

Jim Kelly, Chris Bradley (2) and Paul Bradley were on target for 0-04 to 0-02. Stephen Coyles pulled back a point for Coleraine but the Emmett’s scored at will from that to half time. Paul Bradley from a free, Chris Bradley, Paudie McGuigan, Fergal McEldowney, Gerald Bradley, Paul Bradley, Jim Kelly, Paul Bradley from a free and Paudie McGuigan scored a procession of points before Fergal McEldowney scored the only goal of the game in the 27th minute. The scoring spree continued with points from Paul Bradley frees either side of a Chris Bradley point, with Chris Bradley getting the final score of the half for 1-17 to 0-04.

Niall Holly scored the first point of the second half, Jim Kelly the second and Liam McGoldrick the third before Paul Bradley got in on the second half scoring from a free and Enda McKaigue from play. McKaigue had an outstanding game for the winners, the playmaker for many of Slaughtneil’s scoring moves.

In the final quarter Niall Holly, Ciaran Mullan, Richard Carey and Ciaran McGoldrick (2) completed the Coleraine scoring, Chris Bradley, Jim Kelly and Gerald Bradley the Slaughtneil scorers.

The Coleraine scorers were Ciaran McGoldrick 0-03, 0-02 frees, Richard Carey 0-02, Niall Holly 0-02 Conor Carey, Liam McGoldrick, Ciaran Mullan and Stephen Coyles 0-01 each
