Development match success

St. Michael’s Grammar School recently played a Lurgan College select team in a development match at the College’s Lough Road grounds.

This followed a number of coaching sessions held in St. Michael’s since the beginning of September under the supervision of Lurgan Club Community Rugby Officer, Graeme Hunter and Ulster Branch Community Rugby Officer, Marc Beggs.

The final score was 31-12 in favour of Lurgan College, though St. Michael’s scored two fine tries through Fintan Robinson and Darren Tallon, one of which was converted by Tiernan Geddis.

It is now the intention to get the St. Michael’s players as many matches as possible to enable them to develop their rugby skills further - matches against Portadown College and St. Patrick’s Grammar School, Armagh are in the pipeline.

Graeme Hunter said, “There is a great interest in rugby in St. Michael’s with over 30 boys attending after school practice. Skill levels are very good though we need to work on positional play in match situations, which is why we are looking to arrange further matches over the next few weeks.

“I would like to thank Lurgan College for playing the fixture and assisting us with the development of rugby in the Lurgan area.”
