Devenney stars for Carrick under 13s

CARRICK under 13s, missing a number of key players, entertained City of Derry U13s at Woodlawn on Saturday.

Led by captain Sam McMurtry the side were determined to continue their recent good form which has saw them lose just once so far this season. Jordan Devenney once again showed the way forward barging over for the opening score. Further tries from Attis Zitimiers and Matthew Carson saw Carrick extend their lead to 15-0. Just before half time second row Jordan Forsthye showed real pace when he scored a fine individual try.

After the break Carrick continued to dominate with man of the match Devenney going on to complete a hat-trick of tries giving his side a comfortable 32-5 victory.

Meanwhile, the under 17s suffered a narrow defeat against City of Derry. In wet conditions Carrick started convincingly putting the visitors under pressure with the back row of Mark Ferris, John Magill and Dean Henderson all playing prominent roles.

Carrick began to control the game and put their phases of play together but were unlucky to have a try disallowed mid-way through the first half. After the turnaround Carrick again were the stronger side with prop Dale Wilson, centres Cameron Ward and Gareth Higgins now making strong runs.

But then the unthinkable happened with 10 minutes left when City of Derry put a string of passes together to get in range for their number 10 to put over a well-struck drop goal to snatch a 3-0 victory.
