Lurgan Bowling Club Senior team took on Dundonald last Tuesday and were disappointed to return with just a single league point.

On Rink 1, Bobby Boness, Ronnie McCullough, Pete McGrail and skip Alan Briggs trailed narrowly 4-3 after 5 ends and had turned this into a one shot lead by the half-way point 7-6 against Dundonald rink. The Lurgan rink were 2 shots down 14-12 at the three quarter distance but fought hard in the dying ends to win Lurgan’s single point on the night by a score of 20-17.

On Rink 2, Melvyn Hamilton, Declan McCabrey, Stephen Poots and skip Mansell Montgomery started slowly against Dundonald rink as they were down 4-1 after 5 ends at the mid stage Dundonald had maintained the lead 8-4. The Lurgan rink tried to mount a comeback and trailed by a single shot at the three quarter distance 11-10. However it would prove a bridge to far as Dundonald finished strong winning 19-11.

On rink 3 for Lurgan Ivor Mitchell, Richard McClune, Bobby Ruddell and skip Harry Cosgrove, got of to a good start leading 4-2 after 5 ends, the Dundonald rink put pressure on the Lurgan rink and had completely changed the game leading 14-5 after 10 ends. The Dundonald four never eased up increasing their lead consistently leading 23-9 at the three quarter distance, eventually winning 30-9.

On Rink 4, Reece Millar, David Millar, Gareth Bunting and Alan Roberts, won the first end and lost the next 6 ends to trail 7-1. The Lurgan four picked up 4 shots in one end to reduce the deficit to a single shot at the half way stage 8-7. Lurgan turned this into a single shot lead over the next 5 ends, leading 11-10, the Dundonald rink scored on three of the last 5 ends to ensure the rink point for the home team 17-14.
