Disappointing league result for Riada FC

Riada FC played Kilrea in the league at Megaw Park but found themselves on the wrong side of a 4-1 defeat.

Both teams started strongly and created chances early on. Duffy saw his shot hitting the side netting when well placed and the same player also headed wide from a McCook set piece.

Kilrea were also dangerous at the other end with the midfield pair of Coyle and Og Kane linking up well on several occasions and creating some good opportunities.

It was Kilrea who took the lead after twenty minutes after some good play wide on the right resulted in the Kilrea forward knocking in from close range. This was quickly followed by a second Kilrea goal after a good run from the edge of the box and finish from Og Kane. Kilrea going into the interval two goals to the good.

Riada came out strong at the start of the second period and quickly halved the deficit after good work by Christie put Duffy away on the right and his cross found Mullaghan at the near post who flicked in ahead of the Kilrea defender and goalkeeper.

Riada then rallied after this and a Mullaghan lay off found Duffy who fired over.

Kilrea then put the game to bed with two goals in the space of ten mins midway through the second half. Og Kane slotting home a penalty and Rodgers finishing at the back post after a good ball in from the left by the Kilrea winger.

Final score 4-1 to Kilrea and fully deserving of the three points.

Riada FC will now have a free week. The Ballymoney side were due to play St. Pauls in the Junior Cup, however, this club have since folded giving Riada a bye into the next round
