Disappointing start to campaign for Academy

Banbridge Academy 13

Sullivan Upper 28

BANBRIDGE Academy’s new season got off to a disappointing start when they lost out to a competent Sullivan team at home last Saturday.

Fielding without injured captain Kallan Martin, Bann conceded an intercept try after just five minutes play.

Ten minutes later they were on level terms after centre Matthew Kerr took a pass from Chris Craig and crashed over the Sullivan line, leaving Marc Stevenson to add the conversion.

There was little to choose between the teams except when it came to finishing and Sullivan again showed just how to make possession count when they crossed for a second converted try after 25 minutes.

Bann edged the opening exchanges of the second half but again fell victim to an intercept try which left them facing a 7-21 deficit.

A brace of Stevenson penalties brought hope of a recovery but as the weather deteriorated further it was Sullivan who applied the coup-de-grace with a fourth converted try.

This Saturday Banbridge travel to take on Omagh Academy where they will be hopeful of registering their first win of the season.
