DIVISION ONE: Tight at the top

LOUGHANREAGH and Dunluce continue to lead Division One of the North West Indoor Bowling League.

Loughranreagh had a good win over Second Kilrea to keep pressure on the Bushmills side.

Ian Ross beat Second Kilrea’s Margaret Johnston 13-5 while Edwin Irwin played well to beat Nicky McCaw 10-3. Alan Irwin beat Ivan Smyth 15-4 while in the final game Alastair Steele and Hugh Paul drew.

Dunluce had a six point home victory over Boveedy.

Uel McKeeman beat Ronnie Catherwood while Harry Elliot had a similar victory over Alan Catherwood.

The third tie was a close affair with Alistair Kilpatrick and Dougie Morrow, however Kilpatrick eventually beat his opponent by nine points to eight.

Boveedy’s Nigel Gamble won his game against Alastair McIntryre by nine points to eight.

Other results: Moneydig (5.5) thumped Ballinrees (1.5) and Marian were defeated by St Mary’s 6-1.

In Division Two First Coleraine top the table but they have a game in hand.

The leaders beat Castlerock this week by 20 points. Robert Campbell beat Victor Callaghan, Bryan Shaw beat Ronnie Steele, Colin Hutchinson proved too strong for Jackie Hutchinson, while in the final gmae Jim Campbell romped to victory over Brian Wilson.

New Row beat Drumreagh by 34 points to 28.

Carson Boyd started off well for Drumreagh, he beat Freddie Monaghan by seven points. Tommy Moffatt got things back on track for New Row when he beat Brian Taggart by 10-4. Drumreagh fought back in the third game as Edwin Jackson beat Robin Humpries by three points. The final game was a nail-biter as Jonathan Elder of New Row met Raymond Clyde. Elder held his nerve to win by ten points.

Garvagh and District recorded a good win over Montra, with three wins out of the four games. Elizabeth McCafferty beat Peter Whitaker by one point, David Workman and Alan Creighton drew their game 7 all, while in teh third game Adrian White recorded a good win over Liam McNicholl. Ken McLenaghan defeated Jimmy O’Neill 13-3 in the final game.
