The new darting year got off to a fantastic start standard wise as expected in this league in what is a big few months for local darts in the North West.

There was no sign of Christmas excess as the scoring in this league was as impressive as ever in many pubs and throughout the league teams swapped places in terms of position and it remains tight across the board.

Last Thursday night it was locally reported that Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor had come to town earlier than his due date of February but it was actually DJ Gabriel O’Hara playing in the Happy Landing.

So this DJ mixed us all up with his first maximum 180 ever and considering he has just recently taken up darts among many he may be one to watch for another reason now.

Gabriel is one of many local players who have picked up the arrows in recent times and like many players is improving with time and it’s good to see that it is a fun night out for many and although competitive to us all the fun in it is the most important part.

The so far recorded three 180 maximum scores came from Gabriel O’Hara (Happy Landing); Brian Anderson (Rising Sun A); Padraig O’Reilly (Dolphin Bar).

The best leg of darts of the week came from the super player in Conrad Watson (Rising Sun A) with now his third 13 dart leg in the first half of the league season so all records could be broke with this man on current form.

This was closely followed by a superb 14 dart leg from his county team-mate Dermott McGuinness (Donaghys A) current holder of league player of the year for last season.

Week 17 results, which were the halfway point of the season and league game 15: Murphys Bar 3-3 Macon; Rising Sun A 5-1 Donaghys B; The Depot 6-0 Longfield B; Calablanca 3-3 Donaghys A; Happy Landing 2-4 Rising Sun B; Longfield A 4-2 Eglinton CC B; Dolphin Bar 5-1 Drummond Hotel; The Vale 1-5 Eglinton CC A.

The issue of scoresheets will be addressed at next meeting, which takes place on Monday, January 27, in the Longfield Inn, at 8.30pm.
