DJ is Kop of the pile at Nationals

AVID Liverpool fan DJ Wilson showed his heroes how it should be done with a blistering hat-trick in the West Down finals of the Stonebridge National Championships played before a packed crowd in Dromore Cathedral Hall.

DJ began by giving a wonderful display of drawing bowls to beat brother Jonny in the singles, the teamed up with Jonny and club colleague Richard Martin to win the triples before, in tandem with Jonny, scoring a nail biting extra end victory over Dessie and Jean Hamilton in the National Pairs.

Another highlight of the night was the Junior Singles final where Andrew Johnston secured a last end victory over Scott Jess after an enthralling game.

The prizes were handed over by Flo McNally representing the sponsors Stonebridge Restaurant, who were thanked by Zone Convenor Harold Massey for the continued support given by Stonebridge.

West Down Ladies travelled to Ballylesson to play South Belfast in the semi-final of the inter-zone ladies plate competition.

In a good tight game West Down had to play well to get the needed result. Having got over this hurdle this now leaves the West Down ladies to play Mid Ulster in the final. The game will be played on Saturday 13 February, venue to be confirmed at a later date.

The semi-final of the men’s inter-xone competition will be held in Dromore Cathedral Hall on Saturday January 23 at 2pm against the holders, Armagh zone.
