Doherty happy with Premier squad after set-back

Premier manager Doherty was pleased with his team’s success despite a poor start to the tournament.

“Obviously it’s good to win the Dunluce Trophy after winning it quite some time ago with the same squad,” he said.

“It was disappointing not to progress in the Milk Cup tournament itself but we came up against a very good Tottenham Hotspur side.

“We had a slow start and it set us back from our initial target of the Milk Cup final itself. That knocked us back from the first game and it meant we were always chasing things from then on.”

The Premier gaffer said that the teenagers had shown great determination as they had suffered an early set-back.

“However the boys responded well and it’s a massive credit to them that they did so after early disappointments.

“We readjusted our targets and in the end winning a trophy on the Friday is a good achievement.

“They are a great bunch of lads and they deserve all the credit for what they have achieved in this tournament.”
