Dominic sees off biggest field of season to win Fred Daly Memorial

With close to 200 members entering the competition, it was always going to take a special round to take top spot.

And the 21 handicapper duly delivered.

Dominic had one of his best rounds ever.

The Annaclone man shot a gross 82; nett 61 and that gave him the winning score of 44 stableford points.

Dominic is one of the most enthusiastic members of the club and everyone will be pleased to see him pick up this major win.

Kerry McCluskey (8) was runner-up with 42 points.

He was four over par after six holes and looked to be out of contention. But Kerry is a super player and very determined.

He played the remaining 12 holes in two under par gross, closing off his round with a magnificent birdie two at the final hole.

Richard Coburn (9) and his good friend James Wilson (8) took the plaudits in the low section (0-12). Richard was first with 41 points and James was second with 39 points.

Clifford Thompson (17) won the middle section (13-17) with 40 points.

Clifford can do little wrong on the golf course of late. Long may his run continue.

Trevor Mulholland (15), another Dromore man, was second in the middle section with 39 points.

Stephen Downey (19), a former Golfer of the Year at Banbridge GC won the high section (18+) with 40 points. Brendan Magee (28) was runner-up with 38 points.

Barry Tumilty (4) won the best gross prize with a level par 69.

And, finally, the prize for the best senior player went to PJ Johnston (15) who had 39 points.

Nigel Bryson also had 39 points and he was so unlucky not to get a prize.

John Convery, Mel Hylands, Dennis Livingstone, Ivan Rushe, Jim Gracey, Brian Henning, Gareth Martin and Jim Matthews all came close with 38 points each.

But at least they all broke the calculated standard scratch and had their handicaps reduced.

He will represent the club in a grand final somewhere in Ulster later in the season. No better man for the job!
