Banbridge, under the captaincy of Dominic Quinn, made the short journey to Portadown, which is a course all the local players should know well.

Dominic, as always, prepared meticulously for this qualifying round.

His team looked really strong on paper but as all golfers know, the foursomes format is the most difficult form of golf and so it proved to be for the Banbridge lads on the course at Portadown.

David Cherry and John Poots scored 89; Cecil Wilson and Kenny Arlow 91; Joe Glass and Danny O’Boyle 91; Fergie Cosgrove and William McCandless 92; Alan McGowan and Sherwin Curran 94.

The four best cards for Banbridge totalled 363.

They would have needed a score of 354 to qualify for the matchplay stage so in the end, they fell some nine shots short of the mark.

In the end, the result was disappointing for Dominic and his team, but life goes on and there will be another tournament just around the corner.
