Donaldson double helps South Ladies bounce back to form with a vital victory

South Antrim Ladies First XI grabbed a vital 3-1 win over Malone on Saturday thanks to a Vicky Donaldson double.

The South girls knew how important it was to take three points after experiencing a shock defeat against Ballynahinch the previous week.

With two players missing, South had to field a team with a few last minute changes.

The Ladies began the game very much in control; constantly on the attack and enjoying most of the possession.

Vicky Donaldson, South’s Player of the Match, was on top form and weaved her way through the Malone defenders and with the support of Lauren Boomer prompted the Malone keeper to make the first major error of the match when she failed to clear the ball off the line but backwards into the goal.

During the remainder of the first half, South created numerous opportunities, with a lob over the keeper from Steph Neill being disallowed as well as the ladies being unable to finish off a number of short corner opportunities.

However, towards the end of the first half. Vicky Donaldson found herself with a clear shot at goal, which she confidently executed, when the Malone defenders appeared to await an umpire’s call.

The team started the second half where they left off with Vicky, Abbie Trimble and Alex Dugan leaving the Malone team observing as they skilfully monoeuvred the ball into the circle. Vicky sealed the victory for South with a run along the back line and finished with a neatly placed ball past the Malone keeper.
