Don's delight for McKnight

FAUGHAN Valley's popular President Don O'Doherty held his President's Day in near perfect conditions on Saturday.

With over 120 taking part in the competition, Connor McKnight (20) with 42 points claimed first prize, while a point behind in second spot was Martin Carlin (15), who was also nearest the pin and Damien Boyle (20) with 40 points was third.

Helen Milligan (36) with 38 points was the first lady home and Lee Caldwell (6) with nett 73 claimed the gross prize, while young Dan Hinds won the juvenile section.

Gilbert Castaneda (25) won the front nine after he scored 22 points; Sean McNicholl (16) claimed the back nine after he scored 23 points and Steven Mullan hit the longest drive at the 11th hole.

Last week’s Mid-week stableford competition was claimed by Alan Cheung (15) with 37 points, while Jamie McIvor (6) with 34 points was second after a break of tie finish and Gregory McGlinchey (8) also on 34 points was third.

Meanwhile the ladies competition, which took place last Wednesday in wet conditions went to Catherine O’Neill (20) after she finished with 34 points, second was Nadine Lynch (29) who scored 26 points and Jackie McNulty (36) with 23 points was third.

The Irons competition, which is now at week six, is ticking along nicely and will be finished on Sunday, August 15. Also this week is an Open Stableford competition down for decision on Saturday, while the Foyle Cruse Bereavement Care competition will be staged on Sunday.
