Double Deckers join in the fun at Aghadowey

THE meeting held on Tuesday 13 July 2010 was kindly sponsored by S M Motors, Vow Road, Ballymoney, Telephone 07889183360.

During the day 's events for the first time "Double Deckers" were racing at Aghadowey. Karl Smyth from Garvagh walked away with the first place trophy.

A Spectator Race was also held with some brave chaps entering at their peril for the 100 prize money. This was won by Dermot Donnelly from Rasharkin in his Mitsubishi Evo.

With the new roof grades out, Andrew Gamble was downgraded to blue roof. It didn't take long for Gamble to take the lead as he caught and passed Darryl McAleese. It didn't take long for Glen White to get used to his red roof start as he also caught and passed McAleese. Andrew Gamble was way out in front and took the flag, Glen White finished second with Darryl McAleese in third place.

Heat 2 was similar to heat 1, Gamble & White both got up the inside of McAleese. White couldn't catch Gamble and Gamble took his second win of the night with White second & McAleese third.

In the Final McAleese took the early lead but was caught by Gamble. Gamble got up the inside of McAleese going in to the Brown Trout Corner and took up the lead. McAleese followed Gamble as long as he could but Gamble eased ahead lap by lap. Andrew Gamble took the win, his third win of the night, with Darryl McAleese going one better this time by taking second and Glen White third.

Open Hotrods

Points leader Paul Nevin made his debut in his newly acquired Corsa. Nevin soon put the car to test as he flew in to the lead on the opening lap. Richard Stewart was in second place trying to keep Nevin in his sights. Lindsay Ferry was also trying to keep Nevin in his sights but Nevin pulled away from the pair and took the win. Stewart finished second with Ferry third.

In heat 2 Ferry took the early lead with Nevin following in close pursuit. Nevin made his move up the inside going in to the Brown Trout Corner and took the lead spot. Ferry couldn't do anything with the lead car and settled for second. Nevin took the flag with Ferry a close second and Terrance McConlogue third.

In the opening lap of the Final Nevin was in the lead going in to the Pit Bend Corner but Ferry got his nose up the inside and spun Nevin to the grass. The yellow flags were brought out for the stranded Nevin on track and Ferry was disqualified for his actions. On the restart Nevin jumped in to the lead and never looked back. Paul Nevin took an easy win, his third win of the night, with newly wed Richard Stewart finishing second.

2L Sierras

Heat 1 for the Sierras saw Ronnie White on pole with Peter Henderson joining him on the front row. White shot straight in to the lead with Andrew Percy and Dessie Kearney taking up second and third spots. Percy & Kearney both caught White but couldn't do anything to pass him. White kept his nerve and took the win, Percy finished a close second with Kearney third.

In heat 2 Percy took the early lead with Kearney & Henderson following closely. Kearney got up the inside of Percy going in to the Pit Bend Corner and took up the lead. White got past Henderson for third place and set off to catch the top two men but ran out of laps. Dessie Kearney took his first win of the night with Andrew Percy second and Ronnie White third.

In the Final Henderson took the lead when the green flag dropped. Percy followed Henderson in close pursuit with White third. Going in to the Brown Trout Corner White used the bumper on Percy and was docked one place. White then caught Henderson and got up the inside and took the lead. Ronnie White crossed the line first but was docked to second which left Peter Henderson to take the flag. Dessie Kearney finished in third.

1600 Lightning Rods

Last weeks Final Winner Mark Dunlop took the early lead in Heat 1. Neil Capper followed close behind the Dunlop machine. The lap boards came out but Capper could find no way past Dunlop, who took the win with Capper a close second and Steven Brogan third.

In Heat 2 it was Jason Smyth who led the field away. Heat 1 winner Dunlop followed Smyth lap by lap but couldn't get close enough to take the lead. Capper piled the pressure on Dunlop for second but Dunlop kept his nerve. Smyth had a good lead over Dunlop and Capper and took his second win of the Season. Dunlop finished second with Neill Capper third.

Capper & Dunlop shared the front row for the Final and it was Capper who got the jump at the start. Capper & Dunlop eased ahead of the rest of the field and were in a battle of their own. Owen Cunning was making good progress through the field and took up third spot from Rodney Newton. Dunlop was tight on Capper's back bumper but could find no way past the Portadown Man. Neill Capper took his first win of the Season with Mark Dunlop a very close second and Owen Cunning third.

1600 Bangers

With the new roof grades out Star Man JJ McAfee who has been doing all the winning the past couple of meetings is back to blue roof. Samuel Purdy led the field away and opened up a good lead. McAfee was flying though the yellow roofs and soon caught Purdy. McAfee used the bumper on Purdy and took up the lead. McAfee took the win with Purdy second and Karl Smyth third.

Purdy again led the field away in Heat 2 and opened up a good lead over Clint Murray. Mark McLaughlin was making his way up through and was soon in to second spot. With two laps to go new comer Gary Boreland got put in the wall very hard and the red/chequered flag was brought out. Samuel Purdy took the win with Mark McLaughlin second and JJ McAfee third.

The Final produced the first rollover of this season and on the receiving end was Clint Murray. He got spun going in to the Brown Trout Corner and the car caught grip, tossed over and back on to its wheels. Murray got the car started again and away he went! Meanwhile Lee McCloy who was very quiet all night was battling it out for the lead with McLaughlin. Coming out of the Pit Bend Corner McCloy put McLaughlin up the wall and spun him to the grass tearing the front wheel off McLaughlin's car. McAfee & Smyth also had a tussle with both cars ending in the wall. Lee McCloy took the win with the two white roofs Steven McAleese, and David Streeter finishing second and third.
