Double silver for Sally at World Championships

SPRINGWELL'S Sally Brown returned from the Czech Republic with two silver medals.

Sally was representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the IWAS World Junior Championships.

On the opening day of competion Sally was competing in the T46 100m where she finished second to the Russian Rodomakina Nikol who set a World Record in the event. Sally's time 13.33 into a head win. Sally was also in action on the second day finishing second again to the Russian in the 200m running a creditable 27.80 into a very strong 3.8 head wind.

Sally gained selection by her performances at the UKA Disability Challenge events. At Gateshead on the 11 July she won the 100m (13.67) and 200m (27.37) she followed that up with victories at Crystal Palace on the 18 August 100m (13.32), 200m (27.04).

A club spokesman said: "We are really proud of Sally's achievements she has had a really good season setting new PB's in both the 100m and 200m and taking Springwell RC onto the world stage."

City of Derry's Greg Roberts was a convincing win of the Spar Dessie's 10K on Sunday running a swift 30:53 in windy conditions. Marina Campbell, also of City of Derry won the womens race in a new PB of 39:46. Springwell's Gemma Turley finished 2nd in 41:18 with Gillian Wasson 3rd in 41:26.

Gerry O'Doherty was 1st MO55 in 39:40, Jim Platt 1st MO65 46:40 and Fiona Walls 61:44 (PB).

David Carton was Springwell's sole representative on Saturday at the Rathlin Run on Saturday. David completed the 10.9 mile run in 1:21:41. Philip Goss led the 186 finisher's home in 1:00:28 with Hazel Dawson first female in 1:19:12.

Seven members of Springwell travelled to Dungiven on Saturday for the annual charity 10K. Stephen Joyce was first home in 35:13 (2nd MO) followed by Jim Breen 38:07 (1st MO50), Leslie Ashe 39:26 (2n MO50), Alison Rankin 41:52 (1st Female)(PB), Joe McEvoy 46:44, Michael Rankin 50:00 (PB) and Kenny Bacon 52:45.

Springwell's Johnny Wilson finished second in the Cloughmills Charity Run on Monday 23 August completing the 7.25 mile course in 47:29

Ashley Cairns ran a PB in 800m (2.00.12) at the Team Trophy meeting on Saturday 21 August.

Isaac Kerr finished second in the 95/96 Boys 800m at the final meeting in the Edwards Five Series at the Mary Peters Track on Thursday 19 August. Isaac's time 2.11.18.
