Doubles delight for Mark and Ally

Having adopted the format of Scotch Doubles for the first time, committee members were sceptical as to how big of a success this competition would be.

However, there were 34 pairs entered making it the best turn out for a doubles competition, possibly ever, and the biggest attendance of any competition this season.

Several pairs struggled in the early rounds to adapt to the new ‘shot about’ rule but the pairs who knuckled down and never lost their cool were probably the ones who progressed the furthest.

Wayne and Raymie Jess were deserved finalists after defeating fellow Dromore pairing of Gareth Graham and Neil Beggs 3-2, while Mark Kinneen and Ally Rooney fortunately beat Ryan Taylor and JR Gibson after Taylor and Gibson run out of position to win 3-1 and ended up getting beat 3-2.

Having both semis go to the wire the final looked like it had to go the distance too, but when Mark and Ally took the lead there only looked like one winner in the night! At 2-0 the Jess father and son paring pulled one back but to no avail, as Mark and Ally dominated the final to take out a fantastic clearance.

The committee wish to thank O’Reillys bar for their fantastic hospitality over the three nights.

A lot of thanks must go out to the golf club who lent their table to the event to ease slow play.!

Domino’s Pizza did a fantastic job providing the buffet on the night of the finals and semis. Not a drop went to waist!!

Most of all the organisers thank all the entrants for their time, patience and understanding that the league is going in the right direction. Changes will be made, for better or worse it is all a learning curve and as the season comes to an end

It is hoped that players are compiling ideas for the AGM.
