Downing's scramble victory at Gracehill

THE Two Man Scramble at Gracehill was a late replacement due to the withdrawal of the N.I International Pairs competition and it proved to be a welcome change for the pairing of Ross and Chris Downing.

With a Handicap Allowance of 3/8ths combined Handicaps the pair went round in a three under par 69 for a nett 58.5 - great scoring which yielded two eagles at the 12th par 5 Sycamore and 15th par 5 Amen.

In second place were Herbie McCook and Robert McNeill (5.25) on 59.75 that was a superb seven under 65 gross and included an eagle at Amen.

Their back nine proved decisive and confined J.Kearns' and G Currans' (11.25) 59.75 to third place. Sunday's sweep yielded victory for Jimmy Stewart(15) scoring 39 points beating Aaron Mooney (13) dint of a better back nine .Back six calculations came to Aaron's rescue to push Michael Liken (6) into third but securing gross prize.

In Division 2 three player recorded identical points tallies-Bert Chambers' (22) 38 points brought success on countback over Leonard Linton (24) followed by Lee Munnis (20) pushed into third place after back six scrutiny.

It was a good day for the Horners with Cameron and Geordie getting their birdies at the long par three Wing 'n a prayer and sharing the twos kitty.

Geoffrey lifts the Tombe Trophy in style

The popular Tombe Trophy was keenly contested in what turned out to be fine Spring condition following an ominous start to the day in some nearby locations.

It was Geoffrey McLean (11) who emerged victorious with a fine 40 point tally over over Gareth Elliot (28) on 39 points.

There followed three players on 37 points James Graham (19) Brian Munnis (12) and Bert Freeman (25) all separated by back nine count back.

Robert McNeill took the gross prize.Twos were scored by D. Campbell, J. Kearns, M. Liken, M.McConaghie, R. McNeill, D. Radcliff, C. Reid, and W. Stewart .

The Armoy Open on 2nd may saw a very close finish with Darren Simpson (23) pipping two handicapper Robert McNeill on courtesy of a 20 point back nine on 38 points.

Johnny Munnis (14) trumped dad Brian (11) by one point to take third- Brian had to settle for his second fourth place in consecutive days.

Rodney Donnell(14) also scored 36 points for fifth.

Stephen Bell (6) got best Gross with 29 points and Lady Winner was M.Glasgow (27) with 29 points.

Two's went to Steven Bell at Oasis Mal McConaghie at McCools Quarry and Robert McNeill at Fuchsia Island.

A new feature, a Senior Open (over 50's) commenced last Tuesday 4 May and will run on the first Tuesday during the summer months results of the first competition next week.

Gracehill will host the second Monthly medal of the new season.
