Draw ruffles the Eagles' feathers

Temple Rangers 1

Whitehead Eagles 1

WITH second-bottom Castle United now finding some form, Whitehead Eagles will be looking anxiously over their shoulders, especially after having to settle for a point in this visit to Temple Rangers.

Eagles were understrength, with keeper Michael Cavan operating in a rare central defensive role, and they lived dangerously in an opening session which ended scoreless, thanks largely to a couple of useful saves from Scott McWilliam and the assistance of the woodwork.

With the wind at their backs, Whitehead came more into the game after the break and it was no surprise when they broke the stalemate on 80 minutes; Paul Tumilty rising unmarked at the far post to nod in Matt McDonald’s cross.

With only three minutes left on the clock, Temple notched a well-taken equaliser.

While Eagles will be disappointed at seeing victory snatched from their grasp, all in all, a point a piece was probably just about right.

Whitehead Eagles; McWilliam – Glover, Cavan, M Brock, Ferguson – Hastings, Quinlan, Kennedy, McDonald – Tumilty, Ingram (McCune). Subs (unused) Ross, Wilson.
