Three points in the bag and a clean sheet away to Banbridge on Saturday were more than Wilmont could have hoped for.

A 30 yard strike from Ricky Dunlop sealed the deal for the Ballymoney boys and a wondersave from keeper Chris Fullerton left the Glebe boss a happy man as he prepares for Tuesday night’s game.

“I couldn’t have asked for any more from the lads. We were very good and could have scored five or six more.

“Banbridge were very physical, they were definitely putting it to us but we didn’t react. In the end up they had a man sent off. Our discipline was very good throughout the game and despite considerable provocation our lads didn’t rise to it.

“They had only one chance throughout the game and Chris Fullerton pulled off a superb save which was top class. There’s no doubt Saturday will give Chris confidence going forward, it definitely going to be dog eat dog in this league and that’s two clean sheets in a row against good opposition.”

With the first league game under their belt, Wilmont’s men have little time to recover before their second match at home on Tuesday night to Newington.

“Newington will be a very tough game but if we play with the effort and commitment we showed on Saturday then we should take something from the game.

“Newington were beaten on Saturday and if we can get points off them then that would put us six points clear which would be a big boost.

“There’s an awful long way to go in this league, there are 25 games and I know there will be bad days too.

“It’s about the way we handle those days. If we can keep level heads, keep the commitment and the effort going throughout then I have no doubt about us going forward.

“The team were outstanding on Saturday. Ricky Dunlop scored a cracking goal and I have to say there were a few folk who gave him a hard time yet he has shown exactly why I signed him.

“Ricky works very hard and he is the only player who hasn’t missed a training session yet and it’s paying off for him.

“Young Paul Lyttle started for us. He is only 16 years old and a bit naive but he did very well.

“I hope folk come out and show the lads support on Tuesday night. Kick-off is 7.45pm at the Riada Stadium.”
