Drivers serve up another action packed meeting

ANOTHER large crowd of fans gathered at Aghadowey Raceway last night for the latest action packed meeting, which was supported by Colin McAlesse of room2race, Ballymoney.

Both the grids and stands were full as the drivers in the Euro Stocks and Lightning Rods served up some hot action showing off their skill.

The first race of the night was the 1600cc Lightning Rods and they got off to a fast and hard pace with Paul Hosie taking the lead but Clifford Nevin was hot on his bumper. Paul had to drive hard to keep Clifford at bay. Jerome Docherty had a hard fought battle with Karl McFaul and they were rubbing most of the time as they raced. Jerome drove well to keep Karl at bay, both drivers showed great skill and both cars looked to going well, the final was again hard fought, but Clifford Nevin was to take the spoils from Paul Hosie

Jerome took third place after a great battle with Karl. It was great to see Mark Dunlop out on the track again after he missed the first meet of the season, he showed he is on the pace as are all the drivers in what is going to be a hard fought class this race season.

The Bangers were up next. The field was not as big as usual, but this might be more because the track is going be hosting a big race event on the May Day bank holiday and that is the National bangers and drivers from all over the country are to race in this event and this will be the first time that it will be held at the Aghadowey Raceway.

But the Banger race was again full of plenty of push and shove with John Goilher taking the win in the final. This was John’s first night in the class and he had to battle hard with Willie McFaul.

The Euro Stocks threw up some great racing again and Freddie Laffin was out to try his hand and he had a great battle with Adrian Stirling. But young Mark Graham was again hard to touch as he was hot and was hard to catch on his way to taking the final.

Mark was not so lucky in the Champion of Champions race though as he had to pull out with car trouble.

The Junior Class again allowed the young drivers to showcase their skills. Liam Watson from Articlave took the lead in all the classes and showed that he is definitely one to watch.

But the drive of the night came from Peter Stewart from Garvagh as he drove from very last place to take the win in all classes and the final.

This is another class which is going to go to the wire.

The next race meeting will be held on Saturday 27 April at 7.15pm. One date for your diary though is the May Day bank holiday when the National Bangers descend on Aghadowey.
