Dromara cyclists take part in Spring League

DROMARA Cycling Club’s ever-growing contingent of cross country mountain bikers kicked off the 2012 season in style as they attended the first round of XTMB- McConvey Cycles Spring MTB League in the setting of Belfast’s Ormeau Park on Sunday 19th February.

This league is a hugely popular which acts as a pre-season friendly for cyclists before the competitive season starts, and it seems to get bigger each year.

Twenty-nine riders ranging from under 8s to the seasoned racer represented Dromara, which shows the growing popularity of cycling in the area.

Next weekend on February 26 round two of the Spring League will be held and hopefully Dromara can have the same repeated success! Well done to all riders that competed.

On Sunday 19th February two of Dromara’s junior riders (16-18 year olds), Zak Hanna and Adam Wilson, attended a training day for Junior and Under 23 riders organised by Cycling Ulster’s Road Commission chairman Ryan Connor in the clubrooms of Ballymena Road Club.

The day consisted of a 40 mile ride from Ballymena to Antrim, then onto Templepatrick and back, followed by a few laps of the Woodgreen dual carriageway.

After the ride the riders were given a talk on race tactics by Ryan and a talk on anti-doping and selection criteria for Ulster squads.

The day was concluded by lunch in Milano’s Pizzeria in the town, which was welcomed by all riders and coaches alike!
