Dromore Amateurs Penalty Triumph

Dromore hosted Armagh City last Saturday in the 1st round of the NIBFA cup.

Dromore knew they were in for a tough game with Armagh City top of the Mid Ulster league.

Nothing can describe the drama and the way the match played out, it had everything good about junior football. The momentum swung from side to side with both teams playing beautiful football throughout. Dromores leading goal scorer Odhran Crozier gave the home supporters their first teaser when he scored his second goal of the game midway through the second half to put Dromore 2-1 up with only ten minutes to go. Armagh City equalised literally with the last kick off the ball to make it 2-2 and sent the match into extra time. Armagh City took the lead in extra time but the character of this young Dromore side this season cant be faulted and every player rolled their sleeves up and dug in for a final push as the game was nearing the end. Ryan Woods stepped up to the mark when the U14s got a free kick on the edge of the Armagh box. Ryan Woods sent the ball high to the keepers left and found the back of the net to send the game into the dreaded penalty shoot out. With nerves jangling and some of the players not looking to take a penalty the Dromore coach sent out his first five. The first five takers didnt win the game and now the rest of the squad was called on to stand up and be counted. Literally as 12 penalties were taken before a winner was decided . The hero of the afternoon was Dromore keeper Miguel Ferreria who not only scored his penalty but saved 3 penalties to win the game. A dreadful way to lose any game, but the euphoria and joy shown from the Dromore players at the end highlighted how much they enjoyed this game. Hopefully this will give Dromore U14s a boost for the forthcoming weeks and see them continue to impress and improve.
