Dromore athletes amongst the spoils in Monaghan and Belfast

MONAGHAN Town and Ormeau Park, Belfast were the venues last weekend for the road racing scene with athletes from Dromore Athletic Club taking in both and getting amongst the spoils as well.

First up on Friday evening was the 5k road race in monaghan in which the Dromore club had a very successful night.

In the womens race there were tremendous performances from Julie Turley and Geraldine Branagh over the two laps round the town, claiming a one two finish with Julie taking top spot with a great run and a PB in 17 mins 10 secs with Geraldine’s super run giving her the runners up place in 18.35.

Eighteen year old Ryan McDermott had a fantastic run in the men’s senior race; taking the lead from the gun which he held throughout opening up a good gap by the finish for a great win and a new PB of 15.21.

Nigel Grier also had a smashing run as he put his final preparations in for next week’s waterside half marathon with an excellent run for third over 45 in 17.09.

A very blustery Ormeau Park on Sunday awaited the runners for the Laganside 10k but this didn`t deter the Dromore athletes as their performances throughout the race showed. Twelve from the club took park with them giving their all on the day and super runs all round.

Brian McKee was the first club athlete home in 34.32 followed by Nigel McKibbin in 35.48 (PB), Colin Scott 44.50, Aine McNeill 45.02, Gordon Lightbody 46.18 (PB), Seamus McKeown 46.36, Diane McKee 47.03, Caroline Nelson 47.37, Ian Cardwell 48.27 (PB), Ian Bates 50.19 (PB), Russell Kennedy 50.19 (PB), Steve Cardosi 52.32 (PB).
