Dromore fail to repeat last year's heroics

THE Dromore senior team were away to the league champions, Whitehead, on Saturday last.

Having taken full points in a surprise victory last year they were hoping for something the same, but their hopes were dashed with the home team taking full points.

Rink 1: H Hylands, T Wilson, K Aiken, J McKenny.

Rink 2: B Clinghan, B Paylor, D Burns, F Cranney.

Rink 3: R Wills, G Dawson, R Greer, G Clinghan.

Rink 4: D Graham, S Jess, D Shanks, SG Malcomson.

After the first quarter when the scores were taken the locals were ahead in just one rink; Cranney ahead by three, McKenny and SG were both down three and Clinghan by four leaving Whitehead ahead by seven.

The next quarter was shaded by the locals, leaving the score at halfway stage one shot in favour of the home team with Dromore ahead in two rinks. Cranney and Clinghan were both ahead by a single with McKenny one down and SG by two.

In the next quarter the home team made sure that they would take the majority of the points with Clinghan the only rink to be ahead by two, McKenny and Cranney were both down by five, SG was at six to leave Dromore a mountain to climb at 14 down.

In the final six ends Whitehead showed their class to win by 32 shots. Cranney just failed to win, going down by a single; Clinghan was defeated by six, McKenny finished 11 eleven with SG 14 in arrears.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) the juniors play Castle in the NIBA Junior Cup at home and on Saturday the seniors play Markethill at home in the IBA Senior Cup while the juniors are away to Windsor in the league.

The Dromore junior team were at home to 58th Old Boys in their first home game of the season and after a very disappointing result against Lagan Valley last week were hoping to get back to their winning way.

Rink 1: J. McCullough, G. Harvey, T. Ledlie, T. Gribben.

Rink 2: G McDowell, S Dougan, T Hawthorne, H Maxwell.

Rink 3: J Topping, N Lindsay, J Noddings, S Malcomson.

Rink 4: T Ogle, T Hewitt, I Houston, A Sudlow.

The Juniors had made a good start and had a lead of 13 after the first five ends mark. Gribben was leading the way and was seven ahead, Malcomson was six to the good, Sudlow was leading by five while Maxwell was in the red by five.

At the halfway stage the visitors surprised the juniors to lead by six. Gribben was now three up, Malcomson was at five with Sudlow six ahead with Maxwell having a nightmare - 20 in the red.

At three quarters stage the game was getting very exciting with the visitors ahead by one. Gribben was now two ahead, Malcomson was going well at 11 with Sudlow also in double figures at 10. Maxwell was showing no response and was 24 in arrears.

In the run in the disappointment continued for the locals, going down by five shots. Malcomson had the best card for Dromore, finishing 14 ahead. Sudlow brought his rink home by 11, Gribben had bad luck losing by three but it was a bad afternoon for Maxwell, going down by 27.
